6/27/18 - Boulder, CO
"Car Camping" by Goth Babe
Chapter Two of the trip starts tomorrow. We'll be continuing on again as a team with three weeks of the traveling lifestyle under our belts.
The first three weeks were hard. Don't get me wrong, there were plenty of great hikes, new places, and funny happenings to be had; see mistaking Clorox wipes for body wipes to get a chuckle or two. But, undoubtably, there were a lot of tough times too.
As I said in another write up, this isn't glamorous. People side glance you, you get lumped into somewhat of a homeless category, cops like to follow you, and it can be hard to find a true feeling of comfort.
But, with each day, we are learning more and more about what works. And, more importantly, we are done driving like mad, like we did in the first two weeks. We ended up covering over 2,000 miles from Jersey, through Michigan, past Chicago and straight out to Denver, and that pace, in that amount of time, is not sustainable.
I've spent the last week in Denver and Boulder filling my time with work, hiking, and focusing on slowing down. Being in the same area for more than a few days, and not having to drive multiple hours over and over, really helps you slow down and relax a bit more. You begin to understand which counties and businesses are friendly with overnight parking. You see where parks charge for entry and where parks don't. And, you can cook your breakfast oats and morning drink with your god damn eyes closed.
So, with the two of us back together in Denver, ready to explore more of Colorado and then begin heading north along the Rocky Mountain range, we're stoked for Chapter Two. We know all too well that it won't be perfect, and it won't be easy, but nothing is. What we do know is that trudging through and learning the best groove for our lifestyle and habits will help us to slow down, enjoy more of the sights that surround us, and appreciate more of the opportunity that we find ourselves in; however hard it proves to navigate.
Here's to Chapter Two, and what it may bring.
